NEW YEAR, NOT HERE

Make 2023 a year to remember with our guide to the places that should be on your hit list

Japan opened up to individual travellers in October 2022, and we suggest kicking off 2023 with a visit to Hokkaido, home of Jappow – Japan’s famously dry powder snow. Bag a room at the Club Med Kiroro resort, which opened in December 2022.

If all that snow leaves you craving warmer weather, grab some winter sun in the Maldives – more specifically the Fairmont Maldives Sirru Fen Fushi, which launched its fantastic Sustainability Lab in 2022. Guests use hi-tech kit to turn plastic waste into souvenirs, and the resort works with local communities to reduce the amount of plastic sent to landfill.

For a spring getaway, consider one of British Airways’ new destinations. In March 2023, the airline launches flights from the UK to both Aruba and Guyana. 2023 is an exciting year for the US too. Visitors heading to sun-soaked Florida for a summer break will find it even easier to get between its top cities, thanks to the extension of the Brightline railway, which opens in early 2023 and will connect Miami, Fort Lauderdale and Orlando. Other US destinations worthy of being on your radar include New Orleans, where a huge expansion of the National WWII Museum will be unveiled in early 2023. And don’t miss out on Atlanta, where hot new openings include a new Nobu Hotel and the city’s Centennial Yards complex, a 12 million-square-foot space housing shops, restaurants and bars. For accommodation, we recommend the Four Seasons Hotel Atlanta, famous for its decadent Sunday Brunches.

F1 fans should head to Singapore in September to catch the legendary Singapore Grand Prix, which returned in 2022 after a two-year break. Fancy splashing the cash? Upgrade your experience with one of the fantastic hospitality packages – we recommend a night at the Amber Lounge, where you’ll find top DJs, the world’s best bartenders and more A-listers than you can shake a gear stick at. Finally, late October is a great time to visit San Antonio, Texas. The city’s Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) festival – the largest in America – and the Tasting Texas Wine + Food Festival both take place at the end of the month.
