What’s up rec?
September is here and it seems everyone is back to their busy schedules of getting ready for school, getting back into to their favorite sports and fall sure seems to be on its way.
That certainly is not going to stop us from having a little fun! We are so excited for our first ‘A Fest, happening from Sept. 13 to 16. This event will be sure to please the whole family with many fun exciting things to participate in.
The festival will start off with another amazing night market on Thursday, Sept. 14 from 4 to 9 p.m. It’s a Hodge Podge Market! Come out and enjoy this magical outdoor market, with roaming circus performers, live music, food and drink festival, and an artisan market on Ratchford Street behind Dayles Grand Market.
You could also plan a girls’ night out on Thursday and see the new fall fashions from The Copper Tree Boutique, San Lilies Bridal & Ladies Wear, Jay Set, and Hounds of Vintage. Tickets are $10. Cocktails and hors d’ouevres from 6 and the show will start at 7. Tickets by Eventbrite
Join us for a “Family Date Night” Friday, Sept.14 at Dickey Park at 5:30 p.m. The night will start with our opening ceremony followed by live music by Second Toe, a corn boil and street hockey hosted by the Junior A Amherst Ramblers, we also will show an outdoor movie at dusk: Incredibles 2.
Psychic medium Michelle Russell will also be here Sept. 14 wowing the audience with her remarkable talents. Tickets can be purchased at michellerussell.ca
On Saturday, Sept. 15 Amherst is thrilled to support #TDTreeDays. Join us for a planting at E.B Chandler/Community Garden at 9 a.m. and noon. Sign up to volunteer at tdtreedays.com! This is our fifth year in collaboration with TD helping to build upon Amherst’s urban forest.
Also on Sept. 15 from 10:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. we are hosting a Family Fun Day at our beautiful Dickey Park. The event will start off with the Active Amherst Family Parade, dress up your bikes, wear your favourite sport jerseys and come out to celebrate. The day will be filled with fun for the whole family, we will have live music by C4 and The Mark Macmillian Trio, inflatables, a Walking Challenge, a petting zoo, Bubble Blitz fun, laser tag, wagon rides and so much more, you don’t want to miss it.
Also, don’t forget is it the Amherst Ramblers home opener game on Sept. 15 at the Amherst Stadium at 7 p.m. Come out and support the team.
Annual Terry Fox Run
The Annual Terry Fox Run will be held at Dickey Park on Sunday, Sept. 16 at 9 a.m. Come out and walk, run or bike. Everyone is welcome to participate in a Terry Fox Run, regardless of age, athletic ability or socio-economic standing. While the run does not have an entry fee or minimum donation we do ask all participants to fundraise or donate. You can raise funds online, use a pledge sheet or donate at the run site. Whatever your choice, please know that every dollar counts.
U15 Baseball Championships
Is there more? Yes, there is! Stop by the Robb Complex from Sept. 14 to16 to wish good luck to our host team, the Amherst Bantam AA Athletics, in the U15 Baseball Atlantic Championships. Welcome teams from Newfoundland, Prince Edward Island, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, best of luck and safe travels to all!
