Vin­cent (Vince) An­thony Gin­ley

GIN­LEY, An­thony Vin­cent (Vince) left this world on Novem­ber 24, 2018 sur­rounded by his close fam­ily. He was the son of An­thony (Ir­ish) and Hazel (Dor­nan), born Fe­bru­ary 11, 1924 in Amherst, N.S. He at­tended St. Charles School, and at­tended Amherst Re­gional High School. Hs alma mater was Dal­housie Uni­ver­sity where he grad­u­ated with a de­gree in com­merce. He was a life­long de­voted mem­ber of the Catholic Church.

He was pre­de­ceased by his beloved wife Mar­garet (Ka­vanagh), daugther Karen (Ro­bichaud), wife Priscilla (Camp­bell), broth­ers Jack, Richard (Dick), Ed­ward (Eddie) and sis­ter Mary (Munro).

He is sur­vived by Betty Lou (Camp­bell), Pa­tri­cia (Cat­tran), Dorothy (Dolly) MacDonald, daugh­ter Kathryn (Smits), Amherst, grand­son Peter (Or­mond), grand­daugh­ter Peggy (Or­mond), great-grand­daugh­ters Amelia and Gabrielle (Peggy). As well as sev­eral nieces, neph­ews, and great-nieces and neph­ews.

Vince was a vet­eran of the Sec­ond World War where he served with the RCAF and went on to serve as a ca­reer of­fi­cer in the Armed Forces. Long af­ter he served he was an ad­vo­cate for vet­er­ans’ rights and their just treat­ment as civil­ians. Af­ter his ca­reer in the Forces, he went on to work at In­dian and North­ern Af­fairs as head of fi­nance.

Vince was an avid golfer, loved and had a deep un­der­stand­ing of base­ball. He was very gifted with writ­ten and spo­ken word; if you didn’t al­ready know Vince would tell you. He coached bas­ket­ball in Marville, France in his younger years, was a deft shot in pool, a great dis­tance swim­mer, curled and was a mem­ber of the Amherst Curl­ing Club. He also loved to spend time at the fam­ily cot­tage in Pugwash. He was very gen­er­ous with his time and loved spend­ing time with his fam­ily. Per­haps his greatest skill was his con­cise dry hu­mour and knew that the truth didn’t al­ways come dressed for din­ner.

There was a cel­e­bra­tion of life on Satur­day, De­cem­ber 1 be­tween 2 to 4 p.m. at the Amherst Curl­ing Club Amherst, N.S.
