We hope you en­joyed a very Merry Christ­mas and would like to ex­tend our warm­est wishes to you for a very happy and healthy 2019.

Santa has now come and gone, and a new year is here, so there is no time like the present to be­gin plan­ning for a happy and healthy year in 2019. As part of our goal to be the most healthy, ac­tive com­mu­nity in Nova Sco­tia, we here at the Town of Amherst are happy to pro­vide you with many re­sources to help get you out­side and help you to stay ac­tive dur­ing the win­ter months. We also hope to con­tinue to brighten your nights and in­crease evening win­ter ac­tiv­i­ties as we con­tinue to il­lu­mi­nate Vic­to­ria Square and the down­town out­door skat­ing sur­face with our beau­ti­ful win­ter dec­o­ra­tive light­ing for all to en­joy.

En­joy win­ter in Amherst Are you feel­ing stuffed from all the turkey din­ners with all the fix­ings? Why not bun­dle up, get some fresh air and take ad­van­tage of the many great op­por­tu­ni­ties avail­able to you through­out town such as a stroll along the Big Block Walk down­town, or go out and en­joy a skate on ‘A’ Place to Play out­door skat­ing sur­face which is open daily, weather per­mit­ting, on the cor­ner of Vic­to­ria Street and Maple Av­enue.

Also, did you know the Four Fa­thers Li­brary, YMCA, and the sta­dium re­cre­ation of­fice of­fer snow­shoes free of charge for daily and week­end sig­nouts?

Snow­shoe­ing is a great way to ex­plore the out­doors on top of the snow through­out our many parks and along our walk­ing trails.

Don’t for­get to in­clude your four-legged friends in your win­ter ac­tiv­i­ties as well, take them for some fun and free roam­ing time at our dog park lo­cated at Dickey Park at 132 E Pleas­ant St.

If you are look­ing to get out of the cold and away from the snow and ice, the in­door walk­ing track at the Amherst Sta­dium is open daily.
