Run for the Hills

Around 80 people register for Menihek Nordic Ski Club event

The Aurora (Labrador City) - - Front Page - CONTRIBUTED

On a crisp fall day with a dusting of new snow on the ground, Menihek Nordic hosted the 13th annual Run for the Hills.

Close to 80 people registered for the event, including participants from Quebec, Churchill Falls and the rest from Labrador West.

There was great excitement in the air at the start line at 1 p.m. It was hard to hold the kids back, and then they were off and running.

The trail was excellent, the golden fall colours and the falling leaves covering the new snow on the trail making it exceptionally pretty. Adults did 6.5 kilometre runs, teenage boys and girls did the 3km event, youth up to 12 did 2km and recreational runners did the 2km or 3km.

A social was held after at the chalet with healthy foods and beverages. Prize draws were held and medals were presented to all youth.

Thank you to all volunteers and organizations, especially the Labrador West Search and Rescue who were out in full force, front and centre showcasing their new equipment, and the Ham Radio Club for the great support, the organizing committee and sponsors for another great community event hosted by Menihek Nordic Ski Club.
