Fund­ing an­nounced for two Labrador West tourism ini­tia­tives

Both the White Wolf Snow­mo­bile Club and the En­core Com­mu­nity Arts As­so­ci­a­tion re­cently re­ceived fund­ing from both the pro­vin­cial and fed­eral gov­ern­ments.

The fed­eral con­tri­bu­tion for White Wolf through the At­lantic Canada Op­por­tu­ni­ties Agency (ACOA) is val­ued at $30,000. The pro­vin­cial con­tri­bu­tion is about $15,000.

In terms of the snow­mo­bile club, the funds will be used for in­fra­struc­ture im­prove­ments to a club fa­cil­ity that is needed for day-to-day op­er­a­tions and to en­sure safety.

The En­core Com­mu­nity Arts As­so­ci­a­tion re­ceived close to $16,000 from the ACOA busi­ness de­vel­op­ment pro­gram and just over $5,000 from the pro­vin­cial gov­ern­ment. The fund­ing will go to­wards equip­ment and mar­ket­ing for a her­itage the­atre pro­duc­tion. ‘We built this town: the story of min­ing in Labrador West’ that went over well with tourists and lo­cals alike in its de­but this past sum­mer.

Krista Nor­man of En­core told The Aurora the equip­ment al­lowed them to do a pro­fes­sional, qual­ity pro­duc­tion. She noted they will use this to build on an an­nual pro­duc­tion that will im­prove and hope­fully be­come an in­te­gral part of the tourist ex­pe­ri­ence in the area.
