Gander Refugee Outreach cancelling request for donations

The Beacon (Gander) - - Editorial -

I write on behalf of the Gander Refugee Outreach (GRO) Committee. At a meeting of the group on Feb. 28, 2018 we were delighted to find that we have enough financial resources to enable us to meet the financial needs of our organizational purpose and sufficient to meet the costs of sponsoring the fifth Syrian refugee family currently awaiting Canadian immigration clearance in Lebanon.

When that family arrives, we have no doubt that the generosity of the Gander community will enable us to fill their house with required furniture and other household goods.

We therefore are requesting through the kind office of your newspaper to inform the general public that no further financial donations to GRO are necessary. We thank the citizens of Gander and the many churches and other organizations throughout the province who have supported this humanitarian cause.

The four families already settled in Gander are doing well and have found employment that enables them to support their families.

Thank you for all you have done.

Mac Moss
