Airials gymnasts snag prestigious club awards in provincial championships
GANDER, NL – Outstanding results from Airials Gymnastics at the 2018 provincial championships earned the club two prestigious awards from Gymnastics NL.
The event took place Mar. 24-25 in Corner Brook.
The club won both 2018 Club Awards in optional and compulsory categories. The award is based on the most successful results across all categories competing.
Ella Carroll was also honoured with the Doreen King Award for the Highest Aggregate Score in JO Level 7 following her gold medal performance in Novice 7. Airials gymnasts include a number of provincial champions: Ella Carroll, Novice 7; Sophie Rayner, Open 7; Charlee Humphries, Argo 3; Megan Piercey, Open 6; and MacKenzie Peddle, Tyro 4.
Silver all-around medals were earned by Avery Burry, Tyro 7; Chloe Reid, Novice 7; and Alyssa Pritchett and Sarah Vivian, who tied in Argo 3.
Bronze all-around medal winners included Addison Crocker, Tyro 3 and Olivia Reardon, Argo 3.
Team gold medals were awarded to the Argo 3, Tyro 3 and JO 6 teams, and the JO 4 girls earned a silver team medal.
Johnny Turner won a number of apparatus awards to finish in fifth place all around in Level 1 under 10 boys.
Teams were selected to represent the province at regional championships this spring. Selected to Team NL for Atlantic Championships in PEI in April were Johnny Turner, Megan Piercey, Kylie John, Jorja Chant, Chloe Reid, Avery Burry, Sophie Rayner and Ella Carroll.
Avery Burry, Sophie Rayner, Chloe Reid and Ella Carroll were also named to the team to compete in May at the Eastern Canadian Championships in Ontario.
