Airi­als gym­nasts snag pres­ti­gious club awards in provin­cial cham­pi­onships

GAN­DER, NL – Out­stand­ing re­sults from Airi­als Gym­nas­tics at the 2018 provin­cial cham­pi­onships earned the club two pres­ti­gious awards from Gym­nas­tics NL.

The event took place Mar. 24-25 in Corner Brook.

The club won both 2018 Club Awards in op­tional and com­pul­sory cat­e­gories. The award is based on the most suc­cess­ful re­sults across all cat­e­gories com­pet­ing.

Ella Car­roll was also hon­oured with the Doreen King Award for the High­est Ag­gre­gate Score in JO Level 7 fol­low­ing her gold medal per­for­mance in Novice 7. Airi­als gym­nasts in­clude a num­ber of provin­cial cham­pi­ons: Ella Car­roll, Novice 7; So­phie Rayner, Open 7; Charlee Humphries, Argo 3; Me­gan Piercey, Open 6; and MacKen­zie Ped­dle, Tyro 4.

Sil­ver all-around medals were earned by Avery Burry, Tyro 7; Chloe Reid, Novice 7; and Alyssa Pritchett and Sarah Vi­vian, who tied in Argo 3.

Bronze all-around medal win­ners in­cluded Ad­di­son Crocker, Tyro 3 and Olivia Rear­don, Argo 3.

Team gold medals were awarded to the Argo 3, Tyro 3 and JO 6 teams, and the JO 4 girls earned a sil­ver team medal.

Johnny Turner won a num­ber of ap­pa­ra­tus awards to fin­ish in fifth place all around in Level 1 un­der 10 boys.

Teams were se­lected to rep­re­sent the prov­ince at regional cham­pi­onships this spring. Se­lected to Team NL for At­lantic Cham­pi­onships in PEI in April were Johnny Turner, Me­gan Piercey, Kylie John, Jorja Chant, Chloe Reid, Avery Burry, So­phie Rayner and Ella Car­roll.

Avery Burry, So­phie Rayner, Chloe Reid and Ella Car­roll were also named to the team to com­pete in May at the Eastern Canadian Cham­pi­onships in On­tario.
