Flyers wrap up season in style
Gander sees big wins for midget and bantam teams in provincial tournaments
It was a podium-topping time for Gander last week, with two teams taking home medals from their respective provincial tournaments.
The Gander Flyers Bantam B team were undefeated in their quest for gold in the Deer Lake event April 5 through 7, while the Midget A team came home with a bronze medal from the provincial tournament in St. John’s April 2 through 4.
Ann Noel, parent of two boys enrolled in hockey, said the Bantam team worked hard to retain their provincial championship status.
“Friendships (were) made, lessons learned, and accomplishments achieved,” she said. “Every player left the arena in Deer Lake with a feeling of being part of a team and an extreme sense of accomplishment.”
In the Midget division, it was an emotional ending to the hockey season for the Grade 12 players, as this was their very last game in the minor hockey program.
“These young men have received instruction on and off ice from many coaches, as well as many life lessons and experiences that will assist them on their journey in life,” Noel said. “Hockey is more than just a game.”
The Gander Flyers Bantam B division retained the coveted spot of provincial champions in the 2018 Provincial Hockey Championships. The event took place in Deer Lake April 5-7.
The Gander Flyers Midget A team took home the bronze medal in the Provincial Championships in St. John’s April 2-4.
