Police arrest man waving pellet gun in St. Marys
A man has been arrested for waving a pellet gun inside a St. Marys grocery store Tuesday evening, police say.
According to a press release sent out Wednesday morning, Stratford Police were called to Foodland at 7:30 p.m. after customers saw a man waving what appeared to be a scoped rifle and swearing as he left the store.
Police found the man, still holding the gun, on Jones Street a short time after responding to the call. The man fled on foot but was arrested without incident once police caught up with him.
When he was arrested, the man no longer had the gun with him. Once police found it, officers discovered the gun was, in fact, a scoped pellet gun and not a rifle, as witnesses had feared.
Stratford Police have charged a 41-year-old St. Marys man with careless use of a firearm, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, and breach of undertaking.
The man was held in custody until his bail hearing, which was scheduled for Wednesday.
