Mrs. Maclachlan died October 7, 2018.

Born June 17, 1921, in Big Brook, Inverness County, she was a daughter of the late Louis Archibald and Flora Mary (Mackinnon) Murray. Growing up in rural Cape Breton in the early 1920s, she had a strong connection to farm, family, God and hard times, which got her through her 97 years with grace and dignity. Before her marriage, she worked at the Riverdale Co-op West Bay Road. After her husband’s death, she returned to retail and managed the River Denys Co-op until her retirement 32 years ago. She served for three terms on Inverness County Council (undefeated), the Strait Regional School Board, the Inverness Historical Society and other committees. She was a person of incredible faith and felt privileged to serve her church in many ways. Her house was always open to family, friends and neighbours for a cup of tea and molasses cookies.

She is survived by two sons, James (Darlene), Smith Falls, Ontario; Archie (Paula), Port Hawkesbury; daughter, Florence, Truro; four grandchildren, Aaron, Josie, Brianna (Matthew) Tremblay, Lauren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Peter Alexander Maclachlan; two brothers, Sgt. John James Murray, (killed in action in 1945), Abraham Peter Murray; sister, Dolena Margaret Murray.
