Funeral service for the late Violet (Groom) Chisholm, 101, Grande Greve, Richmond County, will be held October 27 at 10:30 a.m. in St Peter’s Roman Catholic Church, St Peter’s, with Father

Born June 7, 1917, in Halifax, she was a daughter of the late Joseph and Laura (Landry) Muise. She survived the Halifax Explosion and the family then moved to Grande Greve, Cape Breton, where she grew up, married her first husband, Alfred Groom Sr., and raised their family. After her husband’s death in 1967, she married Melvin Chisholm in 1976 and he relocated from Connecticu­t, USA. They had many years of travelling and enjoying life before his passing at age 94 in 2007. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She is survived by son, Louis Groom; daughter, Darlene Lafford; two sons-in-law, Byron Lafford, Richard ‘Dick’ Stone; two daughters-in-law, Mary Ann Groom, Marilyn (Groom) Mcnamara, all of Grande Greve; 22 grandchild­ren; 37 great-grandchild­ren; 20 great-great-grandchild­ren; many nieces, nephews and extended family in Canada and USA.

She was predecease­d by two sons, William ‘Billy’, Alfred Groom Jr.; two daughters, Mary, in infancy, Teresa Stone; daughter-in-law, Lexina Groom; two brothers, Gerald (Mary), George (Alice); two sisters, Mary (Gerald) Middleton, Agnes (Robert) Pond
