Minor hockey action heating up local rinks
The Antigonish pee wee female Bulldogs picked up three wins in recent play.
On Oct 20, they edged the Pictou Subway Selects by the score of 4-3. Goal scorers for Antigonish were Aylee Glenn with three and Maisie Arsenault.
They played two games Oct. 21 versus the Colchester Cyclones.
In game one, a 7-1 win for the Bulldogs, goal scorers were Jenna Beaton and Glenn with two each, and single tallies by Mia Macdonald, Julia Murray and Laci Boyd.
The second game was closer with Antigonish winning 3-1 win. Jenna Beaton, Boyd and Brooklyn Chisholm did the scoring.
Bantam ‘A’ female
The bantam ‘A’ female Bulldogs had mixed results over the same weekend with two wins and a loss.
Playing two games on Oct. 20, they lost the first one 3-1 to Metro West Force White with Julia-sarah Macdonald scoring Antigonish’s lone goal.
It was the same score in their second game but this time in favour of the Bulldogs, in a game versus Metro West Force Red.
Bulldog goals came off the sticks off Alexis Macdougall, Kaylee Connors and Jaelyn Rovers.
The following day, the team recorded a 7-2 over Metro East Inferno Red, in Dartmouth.
Lauren Keats scored four times in the win with single goals being recorded by Kara Beaton, Brooklyn Carter and Rovers.
Bantam ‘AA’ Bulldogs
The Antigonish Bantam ‘AA’ Bulldogs took both games of a home-and-home versus Acadia during the weekend.
In Wolfville for game one, the Bulldogs won 9-3 with Keith Thomson recording the hat-trick. Andrew Murray scored twice in the victory and singles came from Luke Cormier, Phoenix Lydon Ryan, Daniel Chaisson and Brody Macpherson.
Hosting the Axemen, the following day at the Antigonish Arena, the Bulldogs came out with another win against their Valley rivals by the score of 5-3.
Scoring for the ‘Dogs’ were Lydon-ryan with two, and Macpherson, Chaisson and Damon Macdonald with one each.
The Fundy Highland Bantam AA Subway Selects recorded three wins over the weekend to improve to 4-0 to start the Provincial Bantam AA Female season.
Game one saw the Selects blank the Valley Wild 4-0. Olivia Fitt led the Selects with two goals. Mairead Macpherson with a goal and assist and Sarah Fraser added singles.
Willa Evans and Erin Macneil recorded two assists each. Single assists went to Madison Beson Megan Smith and Julia Macdonald.
Gabby Arsenault recorded the shutout.
In game two, the Selects beat the Metro West Force Blue 4-1. Jaylen Langille led the winners with two goals. Macneil with a goal and assist and Beson, into an empty net, rounded out the scoring. Smith added an assist and Arsenault was the winning goaltender.
In game three, the Selects defeated Metro West Force Blue, again, by a 4-0 score. Kenzie Greencorn Baillie Griffon, Fitt and Macneil scored singles.
Ellie Clarke and Emily Hart recorded two assists apiece. Evans, Macdonald, Beson and Bree Macpherson added single assists, and Arsenault posted the shutout.
