Mixed results for local minor hockey teams

In recent Antigonish minor hockey action, the bantam ‘A’ female Bulldogs won big; 9-1 over Western Riptide ‘Green,’ in a game played in Antigonish Nov. 17.

The bantam ‘AA’ Bulldogs split a pair of close games versus Western Valley during the same weekend.

In game one, the Bulldogs won 6-5, while Western Valley took the second contest 5-4.

Scoring for Antigonish in the contests was Daniel Chiasson with three goals, Jack Macdonald and Logan Mcgrath with two each, and singles by Colin Smith, Damon Macdonald and Andrew Murray.

The atom ‘AA Bulldogs had the same 50 per cent success rate in a pair of league games, played on home-ice.

On Saturday (Nov. 17), they defeated Yarmouth 5-2, with goals by Kendall Doiron, Aiden Bowie, Will Chisholm and two off the stick of Colby Fleet.

The following day, they lost to West Hants by the score of 7-4. Doiron and Chisholm scored again while Ben Kavanaugh and Duncan Anderson also found the back of the net for the Bulldogs.

The regional Fundy Highland bantam ‘AA’ Subway Selects suffered their first league loss during the weekend, while also recording a tie. Both games were played on the road.

On Saturday, Metro West Force ‘Blue’ edged the Selects 2-1 with Olivia Fitt scoring her team’s lone goal, assisted by Baillie Griffon.

It was another low-scoring affair

Sunday as the Selects tied Metro East Inferno ‘Black’ 1-1. Erin Macneil scored the Selects’ goal while Gabby Arsenault provided solid goaltendin­g in both contests.

The Selects record now stands at 5-1-1, earning them second place in league standings.
