Funeral ser­vice for the late William ‘Billy’ Mackin­non, 79, East Lake Ainslie, was held Novem­ber 16 in Ste­wart United Church. Burial was in Ste­wart­dale Ceme­tery.

Mr. Mackin­non died Novem­ber 13, 2018, in Vic­to­ria County Me­mo­rial Hos­pi­tal, Bad­deck.

Born March 15, 1939, in Hays River, In­ver­ness County, he was the youngest son of the late Al­lan and Flora (Mathe­son) Mackin­non. He was a mem­ber of Ste­wart United Church and could be found in the back row of the choir al­most ev­ery Sun­day. He was a mem­ber of Sir­com Lodge 66, Keltic Star Chap­ter #19 OES and the Why­co­co­magh Vol­un­teer Fire De­part­ment. Vol­un­teer­ing his time to his com­mu­nity was very im­por­tant to him. He served on the boards of EN­RICH, L’arche Cape Bre­ton and the Why­co­co­magh Co-op. He spent his early years work­ing on the fam­ily farm in Hays River and in the woods cut­ting pulp. He re­tired from Stora For­est In­dus­tries in 1994. He loved be­ing in the woods and in his gar­den. For 45 years, he and his wife worked to­gether as mail car­ri­ers on the Lake Ainslie mail route. He looked for­ward to see­ing and teas­ing his friends along the way and at the Why­co­co­magh Post Of­fice.

He is sur­vived by his wife of 58 years, Anna; three daugh­ters, Florence Mackin­non (David Fer­gu­son), Monc­ton; Wilma (Murdo) Fer­gu­son, Port Hawkes­bury; Joy (Steve) Gar­land, Ham­monds Plains; five grand­chil­dren, Erin (Mike) Stoll, Drew and Cassie Fer­gu­son, Kyle and Sarah Gar­land; sis­ter, Agnes Macphail, East Walpole, Mas­sachusetts; sis­ter-in­law, Mae (Nel­son) Poole, Why­co­co­magh; spe­cial cousin, Don (Carol) Mackin­non, New Mar­ket, On­tario; many nieces and neph­ews.

He was pre­de­ceased by two broth­ers, An­gus Neil, Don­ald; par­ents-in-law, William and Cassie Mac­in­tosh; three broth­ers-in­law, Leroy Macphail, Roy Macken­zie, Gussie Mac­in­tosh; sis­terin-law, Mar­guerite Macken­zie.
