Funeral service for the late Duncan ‘Ivan’ Mackenzie, 76, Lime Hill, Inverness County, was held November 20 in West Bay United Church with Reverend Donna Lovelace officiatin­g. Burial was in Lime Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Mackenzie died November 15, 2018, in Strait Richmond Hospital, Evanston.

Born in Sydney, he was a son of the late Duncan John and Johanna Jessie (Maclean) Mackenzie. As a teen, he guided American hunters in the Cape Breton Highlands. He was a graduate of the Maritime Forestry School, which led to a position at Nova Scotia Forest Industries in their woodlands department building roads. As a small business owner, he owned and operated Mackenzie Brothers Constructi­on for close to 50 years. He was a longtime horse owner and supporter of harness racing in the Maritimes. He was past president of the Canadian Morgan Horse Associatio­n. In 2014, he was awarded a Lifetime Achievemen­t Award from the Snowmobile Associatio­n of Nova Scotia. He was a life-time member of West Bay United Church, serving in many capacities and committees including clerk of session. He was a major supporter of many local initiative­s and was a member of Sircom Lodge 66, Whycocomag­h.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Vickie (Jolly); two daughters, Arlene Mackenzie (Wayne Jarvis), Red Deer, Alberta; Melissa Mackenzie (Dave Brooker), Hampton, New Brunswick; sister, Beverley Leonard, West Bay; two brothers, Wayne, West Bay Road; Steven (Joan), Fredericto­n; many nieces and nephews.

He was predecease­d by two brothers, Sheldon, Kenneth; brother-in-law, Lawrence Leonard.
