Funeral ser­vice for the late Dun­can ‘Ivan’ Macken­zie, 76, Lime Hill, In­ver­ness County, was held Novem­ber 20 in West Bay United Church with Rev­erend Donna Lovelace of­fi­ci­at­ing. Burial was in Lime Hill Ceme­tery.

Mr. Macken­zie died Novem­ber 15, 2018, in Strait Rich­mond Hos­pi­tal, Evanston.

Born in Syd­ney, he was a son of the late Dun­can John and Jo­hanna Jessie (Ma­clean) Macken­zie. As a teen, he guided Amer­i­can hun­ters in the Cape Bre­ton High­lands. He was a grad­u­ate of the Mar­itime Forestry School, which led to a po­si­tion at Nova Sco­tia For­est In­dus­tries in their wood­lands de­part­ment build­ing roads. As a small busi­ness owner, he owned and op­er­ated Macken­zie Broth­ers Con­struc­tion for close to 50 years. He was a long­time horse owner and sup­porter of har­ness rac­ing in the Mar­itimes. He was past pres­i­dent of the Cana­dian Mor­gan Horse As­so­ci­a­tion. In 2014, he was awarded a Life­time Achievement Award from the Snow­mo­bile As­so­ci­a­tion of Nova Sco­tia. He was a life-time mem­ber of West Bay United Church, serv­ing in many ca­pac­i­ties and com­mit­tees in­clud­ing clerk of ses­sion. He was a ma­jor sup­porter of many lo­cal ini­tia­tives and was a mem­ber of Sir­com Lodge 66, Why­co­co­magh.

He is sur­vived by his wife of 32 years, Vickie (Jolly); two daugh­ters, Ar­lene Macken­zie (Wayne Jarvis), Red Deer, Al­berta; Melissa Macken­zie (Dave Brooker), Hamp­ton, New Brunswick; sis­ter, Bev­er­ley Leonard, West Bay; two broth­ers, Wayne, West Bay Road; Steven (Joan), Fred­er­ic­ton; many nieces and neph­ews.

He was pre­de­ceased by two broth­ers, Shel­don, Ken­neth; brother-in-law, Lawrence Leonard.
