Funeral service for the late Catherine ‘Kaye’ Mathilda Venedam, 90, Pomquet, Antigonish County, was held November 19 in Ste Croix Church, Pomquet, with Father Andrew Gillies officiatin­g, assisted by Father Peter Baccardax and Deacon Art Riley.

Mrs. Venedam died November 16, 2018, in the R.K. Macdonald Nursing Home, Antigonish.

Readers at the funeral Mass were Jeanette Power, Marie Feltmate and Katie Maclellan. Billy and Shirley Macgilliva­ry presented the offertory gifts. Music was provided by Carmel Macpherson and choir.

Active pallbearer­s were William Feltmate, Jimmy Feltmate, Francis Venedam, Calvin Venedam, Brendan Doyle and Wayne Delorey.

Honorary pallbearer­s were Kingsley Brown, Sonny Rennie, Henry Delorey, Jerry Deyoung, Linda Wood, Lila Beshong, Paula Minehan, Dorothy Turnbull, Haley Feltmate, Simon and Patsy Doiron, Francis and Stella Doiron and Francis and Annette Melanson.

Born December 25, 1927, in Glencoe, Guysboroug­h Co., she was a daughter of the late William and Annie (Farrell) Feltmate. She worked in the United States in her early years. After raising her family with her husband Clarence in Pomquet, she returned to work in the food industry at The Dingle, The Goshen Restaurant and Mother Webbs. She enjoyed knitting, cooking, baking and a good game of cards, but she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchild­ren and great grandchild­ren. She had a very deep faith and was a dedicated member of Ste Croix Parish.

She is survived by four daughters, Marsha (Adrian) Murphy, St. John’s, Newfoundla­nd; Patricia (Robert) Maclellan, Clydesdale; Audrey Mountain (Harold Slaunwhite), Pomquet; Gloria (Joe) Deon, Pomquet; son, Austin (Lois) Venedam, Pomquet; two foster children, Billy (Carol) Murphy, Allan Murphy, Windsor; nine grandchild­ren; eight great-grandchild­ren; foster grandchild­ren; step grandchild­ren; brother, Bill (Marie) Feltmate, St. Andrews; three sisters, Hilda Gottschall, Halifax; Loretta Welsh, Antigonish; Shirley (Billy) Macgillivr­ay, Mcarras Brook.

She was predecease­d by her husband, Clarence; two brothers, Maurice, Johnny; three sisters, Annie, June, Pearl; foster son, George; son-in-law, Wayne Mountain.

Memorial donations may be made to Ste Croix Cemetery Fund or charity of choice.
