Funeral ser­vice for the late Cap­tain Joseph Paul An­drew Ride­out, 82, Canso, was held Novem­ber 24 in Canso United Bap­tist Church with Rev­erend David Wheeler of­fi­ci­at­ing.

Mr. Ride­out died Novem­ber

17, 2018, in East­ern Me­mo­rial Hos­pi­tal, Canso.

Born in Ste Pierre and Miquelon, he was a son of the late Ge­orge Eu­gene Aguste and Adele Loise Mar­guerite (Le­clavier) Ride­out Sr. At the age of six, he moved to Ter­renceville af­ter the death of his mother. His fish­ing ca­reer started in his early teens, work­ing his way up to cap­tain. His lengthy ca­reer took him to so many ports, in­clud­ing Den­mark,

Green­land and more. He en­joyed New­found­land and coun­try mu­sic, sang and played gui­tar. He moved to Canso in 1965, mar­ried and raised a fam­ily. He worked at var­i­ous com­pa­nies un­til his re­tire­ment with Mercy Seafood’s, as Cap­tain of the Mercy Ven­ture. He was also a suc­cess­ful tuna fish­er­man.

He is sur­vived by his wife of 53 years, Stella; two daugh­ters, Lori (Kevin), Hal­i­fax; Rita (Kenny), Hal­i­fax; hon­orary daugh­ter, Wendy (Jay), Syd­ney; son-in­law, Glen Simp­son, Nfld.; five grand­chil­dren, Max, Matthew, Scott, Lacey, Faith; sis­ter, Rita, France; seven broth­ers and sis­ters-in-law, Mar­ion, Myrna, Everette, Arnold, Kather­ine, Johnny, Rol­lie; nieces, An­nebelle, Marie, Hal­i­fax; neph­ews, Jerome, Di­dier, France; as well as Dean, Der­rick, Dianna, Chad, Vicki, Su­san,

Lloyd, Rod­ney, Juanita, Kenny, Odessa and Ralph.

He was pre­de­ceased by daugh­ter, Janet; brother, Ge­orge; sis­ter, Theresa.
