Another beloved holiday classic is coming to the Bauer Theatre in Antigonish. Dec. 8 and 9, Theatre Antigonish is pleased to present It’s a Wonderful Life.

In partnership with the Antigonish Choral Ensemble (ACE) and the St. James Handbell Choir, this production is the Lux Radio version of the Christmas classic. It reimagines the Hollywood story as a 1940s-era radio show, complete with live choral music and the beautiful sounds of the handbells.

“This well-known story about an angel looking for his wings, and a man who has worked all his life to help those around him but now finds himself in need of help, will bring the spirit of Christmas to the Bauer and to our community. We are thrilled to be working with the talented musicians of ACE and the Handbell Choir to bring this joyful celebration onto the Bauer Stage” artistic director Andrea Boyd said.

The story will be presented in the nostalgic style of a live radio play, adapted from Lux Radio Theatre, featuring a large cast of community actors and musicians. Combined with popular music of the season, the show is sure to be a magical holiday treat, fun for the whole family.

It follows the sell-out success of last year’s production of Miracle on 34th Street, and will be presented in the same format.

“The collaboration was very successful last year. We were blown away by the positive feedback and enthusiasm of the audience — both shows sold out before the actual date — so we have added a third show this year, thanks to everyone’s willingness to expand the production and add the extra time.

“Music makes the holidays magical, and this radio play is the perfect way to kick off the festive season. Book your tickets early, and bring the whole family,” managing director Reema Fuller said.

The shows take place on Saturday, Dec. 8, at 7:30 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 9, at 2:30 and 7:30 pm.

Tickets are $15 - $12 for seniors, and $10 for students – and advance tickets can be booked online at tickets.festivalantigo, or by calling 902-867-3333.

Organizers expect both days to sell out so advance bookings are encouraged to avoid lineups at the door.

For questions or more information, contact the box office at 902-867-3333 or tick[email protected], or follow Theatre Antigonish on Facebook.

In similar fashion to last year’s production of Miracle on 34th Street — cast pictured in this file photo — Theatre Antigonish will be adapting another classic holiday movie — It’s a Wonderful Life — for the Bauer Theatre stage, Dec. 8 and 9.
