Fu­neral ser­vice for the late Leonard James Decoste, 95, Frankville, was held Novem­ber 28 in St. Paul’s Church, Havre Boucher, with Fa­ther Al­lan Macphie of­fi­ci­at­ing. Burial was in the par­ish ceme­tery.

Mr. Decoste died Novem­ber 24, 2018.

Read­ers at the fu­neral Mass were Mary An­der­son and Kathryn Drysdale. Meghan James pre­sented the of­fer­tory gifts. Eucharis­tic min­is­ters were Leona Brow, Stephanie Breen and Andie Ste­wart. Mu­sic was pro­vided by or­gan­ist San­dra Han­lon and St. Paul’s Choir.

Pall­bear­ers were Ren­nie Pet­ti­pas, Ray­mond Decoste, Lawrence Decoste, Se­ward Breen, James Breen and Jef­frey Cou­ture.

Born Septem­ber 1, 1923, in Frankville, he was a son of the late Ed­win and Mar­garet (Le­vandier) Decoste. He was em­ployed with Aca­dia Fish­eries, CNR, con­struc­tion work, work­ing on his farm and do­ing odd jobs un­til his re­tire­ment. He was a de­voted hus­band and cared for his ail­ing wife for 17 years. He was a friendly man, a great story teller and en­joyed Coun­try and Cape Bre­ton Fid­dle Mu­sic. He spent many years en­ter­tain­ing in lo­cal va­ri­ety con­certs, in par­tic­u­lar, Hank’s Jam­boree at the Havre Boucher Com­mu­nity Cen­tre, per­form­ing You Can’t Get to Heaven in an Old Ford Car and yo­del­ing. He was a de­vout Ro­man Catholic and life­long mem­ber of St. Paul Ro­man Catholic Church, Havre Boucher. He was the last sur­viv­ing mem­ber of his im­me­di­ate fam­ily.

He is sur­vived by five daugh­ters, Mary (Ernest) Wil­liams, Cathy (James) Cou­ture, Ann Decoste, all of Frankville; Elaine (Ernie) Pel­ler­ine, Lin­wood; Jac­que­line (John) Layes, Cloverville Road; grand­daugh­ter, Danielle Pel­ler­ine; grand­son, Ni­co­las Layes; two step-grand­chil­dren, Me­gan (Troy) James, Jef­frey Cou­ture; great-grand­son, Zan­der.

He was pre­de­ceased by 15 broth­ers, Joe, Eu­gene, Michael Pa­trick, Mike, Leonard, Ed­ward, Vic­tor, Johnny, An­thony, Steve, Pa­trick Xavier, Peter Fran­cis, twins, Pa­trick Xavier, Peter Fran­cis, Vin­cent; six sis­ters, Geneva, Mar­garet, Elaine, Ber­nadette, Emma Pearl, Vi­o­let.

Me­mo­rial do­na­tions may be made to St. Paul’s Cen­tre, Ceme­tery Fund or the Havre Boucher Com­mu­nity Cen­tre.
