Fu­neral ser­vice for the late Hugh Vin­cent ‘Hugh V’ Gil­lis, 61, Riverview Adult Res­i­den­tial Cen­tre, River­ton, Nova Sco­tia, was held De­cem­ber 22 in St. Ninian Cathe­dral with Fa­ther Don­ald Macgillivray of­fi­ci­at­ing. Burial will be held at a later date.

Mr. Gil­lis died De­cem­ber 18, 2018.

Read­ers at the fu­neral Mass were niece Shelly Ju­urlink, Gary Cu­sack and cousin Kerry Ann Mc­car­ron. Nephew Jeff Sylvester and cousin Dianne Mills pre­sented the of­fer­tory gifts. Eucharistic min­is­ters were Gary Cu­sack and Jim Berkvens. Mu­sic was pro­vided by Ty Wal­lace and John Pel­lerin.

Pall­bear­ers were neph­ews Mark Ju­urlink, David Cu­sack, Bryan Mur­phy, cousins Don­ald Mac­don­ald, Ger­ard Gil­lis and friend Hugh John Chisholm.

Born Novem­ber 30, 1957, he was the son of the late Joseph

‘Joe’ and Jean (Chisholm) Gil­lis, Cly­des­dale. As a grad­u­ate of the Antigo­nish Re­gional High School, he was em­ployed in the X-ray De­part­ment at St. Martha’s Re­gional Hos­pi­tal. Al­ways en­ter­tain­ing with his quick and witty sense of hu­mor, he is re­mem­bered for his ap­pre­ci­a­tion for clas­sic rock mu­sic, love of dogs, and un­wa­ver­ing sup­port to the Mon­treal Cana­di­ens hockey team.

He is sur­vived by his son, Ryan; friend and for­mer wife, Mary (Bekkers) Smith, Cly­des­dale; two sis­ters, Mary (John) Mur­phy, Cly­des­dale; Claire (Alphonse) Ju­urlink, St. An­drews; sev­eral nieces, neph­ews, cousins, rel­a­tives.

He was pre­de­ceased by sis­ter, Anne Cu­sack.
