Funeral service for the late Hugh Vincent ‘Hugh V’ Gillis, 61, Riverview Adult Residentia­l Centre, Riverton, Nova Scotia, was held December 22 in St. Ninian Cathedral with Father Donald Macgillivr­ay officiatin­g. Burial will be held at a later date.

Mr. Gillis died December 18, 2018.

Readers at the funeral Mass were niece Shelly Juurlink, Gary Cusack and cousin Kerry Ann Mccarron. Nephew Jeff Sylvester and cousin Dianne Mills presented the offertory gifts. Eucharisti­c ministers were Gary Cusack and Jim Berkvens. Music was provided by Ty Wallace and John Pellerin.

Pallbearer­s were nephews Mark Juurlink, David Cusack, Bryan Murphy, cousins Donald Macdonald, Gerard Gillis and friend Hugh John Chisholm.

Born November 30, 1957, he was the son of the late Joseph

‘Joe’ and Jean (Chisholm) Gillis, Clydesdale. As a graduate of the Antigonish Regional High School, he was employed in the X-ray Department at St. Martha’s Regional Hospital. Always entertaini­ng with his quick and witty sense of humor, he is remembered for his appreciati­on for classic rock music, love of dogs, and unwavering support to the Montreal Canadiens hockey team.

He is survived by his son, Ryan; friend and former wife, Mary (Bekkers) Smith, Clydesdale; two sisters, Mary (John) Murphy, Clydesdale; Claire (Alphonse) Juurlink, St. Andrews; several nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives.

He was predecease­d by sister, Anne Cusack.

Memorial donations may be made to the Riverview Adult Residentia­l Center or a charity of choice.
