Open Farm Day locations
There are four locations in the Quad Counties where people can enjoy Open Farm Day 2019, which will take place Sunday, Sept. 15.
BAYVIEW DAIRY FARM 11086 ROUTE 19 INVERNESS COUNTY NOON TO 3 P.M.
Directions: located on Route 19, next to Dalbrae Academy. Coming from Whycocomagh or Inverness, go through the village of Mabou and past the school; next driveway on left. From Port Hood, go past West Mabou Road turn off and first driveway on right.
Activity description: Tour dairy facility and interact with animals. Static displays and guided tours will take place throughout the day. View operation of the farms robotic milking system.
MAMIE’S ALPACAS 84 MACEACHERN RD., GLENDALE, INVERNESS COUNTY, 11 A.M. TO 3 P.M.
Directions: From Highway 105 turn on Glendale Mountain Road Glendale. Take an immediate left on Maceachern Road, drive on gravel road for approximately 150 to 200 metres; turn right at 84 Maceachern – Mamie’s Alpacas.
Activity description: Walk with alpacas in the field. Get photos with alpacas.
SIMPLY DUCKY FARM 365 SOUTHSIDE HARBOUR ROAD ANTIGONISH COUNTY 10 A.M. TO 3 P.M.
Directions: Take Exit 35 off Trans-canada Highway and turn north on Southside Harbour Road for two kilometres. Located on left, second house after the train tracks.
Activity description: Come down and see the goats, pet The Potato, say hello to some sheep and meet the pigs. Take a guided tour of a small familyscale farming operation and learn what you need to know (costs, requirements and benefits) to safely raise chicken and pork, keeping goats for milk, as well as sheep (for lamb and wool). There will also be miniature horses, rabbits and other child-friendly critters. More details at simplyduckyfarm.ca.
WEST RIVER HOLSTEINS 1543 HIGHWAY 337 HARBOUR CENTRE ANTIGONISH COUNTY 2 TO 4 P.M.
Directions: 8 km past St. Martha’s Regional Hospital in Antigonish (from Main Street take Hwy 337 to Harbour Centre; farm is on left-hand side, with sign at end of driveway.)
Activity description: Take a guided tour every half-hour, starting at 2:15 p.m. Self-guided tours and static displays at visitor’s leisure. Activities will be available for the kids. Get details from Google Maps.
