Funeral service for the late

Anita Elizabeth Richard, 76, Canso, Guysboroug­h County, was held September 2 in Star of the Sea Roman Catholic Church, Canso, with Father Jonathan Nnajiofor and Father Dan Macdonald officiatin­g. Burial was in the parish cemetery.

Mrs. Richard died August 25, 2019, in Guysboroug­h Memorial Hospital.

Born in Little Dover, Guysboroug­h Co., she was a daughter of the late Harry and Lucy (Keefe) Horne. She was a member of Star of the Sea Parish, Canso, where she was also a choir member. She was a retired nursing assistant, having worked at Eastern Memorial Hospital.

She was passionate about her job and enjoyed the antics she and her fellow co-workers came up with to brighten their patient’s days. She was a member of the Shamrock Club, Canso, a past board member of the Canso Library and Canso Co-op Ltd. She was a town councillor for the former Town of Canso. She volunteere­d at every available opportunit­y and enjoyed playing bingo and cards.

She is survived by her husband, Enos; two daughters, Bonnie (Walter) Richard, Angela (David) Rhynold, all of Canso; two sons, Brian (Michele), Lower Sackville; Derek (Krista), Middle Sackville; six grandchild­ren, Katelyn, Kerry, Kaleigh, Abbey, Hanna, Sophia; four brothers, Cyril (Sandra), New Glasgow; Terry (Margie), Paul (Lorna), all of Canso; Gary, Little Dover; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Horne, Antigonish; brother-in-law, Clair Macdonald, Little Dover; several nieces and nephews.

She was predecease­d by sister, Phyllis; two brothers, Kevin, in infancy; Ronald.
