Red Cross providing money to households impacted by Fiona
The Canadian Red Cross will be distributing $500 to eligible households most impacted by Hurricane Fiona in Atlantic Canada.
The organization will begin distributing money to eligible households from the most impacted areas that have registered with the Red Cross and cannot meet their basic needs due to the storm. The organization said the relief will be issued to those most in need all areas of P.E.I. and in areas of Nova Scotia and Newfoundland and Labrador.
The relief effort in Nova Scotia will target areas including Antigonish County, Cape Breton Regional Municipality, Colchester County, Cumberland County, Guysborough County, Inverness County, Pictou County, Richmond County and Victoria County.
Areas in Newfoundland and Labrador include Channelport Aux Basques, Margareefox Roost, Rose Blanche – Harbour le Cou, Diamond Cove, Burnt Islands, Burgeo, Isle aux Morts and Grand Bay East.
The Red Cross determined eligible areas in collaboration with local authorities.
People who have not yet registered with the Canadian Red Cross are encouraged to do so by calling 1-800-8636582 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. ADT, or by going online at www.redcross.ca/hurricanefiona to either register online or find the reception centre nearest them.
More than 56,000 households have registered with the Canadian Red Cross in all provinces impacted by Fiona.
Canadians wishing to donate to the Hurricane Fiona in Canada Appeal can do so online at redcross.ca, text FIONA to 20222 to make a $10 donation, or call 1-800418-1111. The Canadian government matched every dollar donated to the Canadian Red Cross up until Oct. 23.
