Now’s the time to write and enjoy novels

- CONTRIBUTED

November is National Novel Writing Month, a time we cherish at the library.

A whole month to inspire writers to focus on their craft and find that novel that’s been waiting to be written. Wordsmiths are welcome to drop into their local library and visit online to explore numerous resources offered to support you in your writing journeys — from comfy chairs, with tables to spread out on, free Wifi access for laptops, public computer terminals with free internet access, printers, photocopiers and fax machines, research resources (online and in print) and language learning tools. The Nanowrimo website has lots of helpful tools, tips, and mentoring programs available too.

There are also upcoming writing workshops with Emma Května, including What Book Should I Write? on Nov. 8 at the Westville library (902-396-5022) and Writing Tips & Techniques! on Nov. 29 at 6:30 p.m. at the Antigonish library (902-8634276). Seating is limited, the workshops are free and registration is required. Call the library location to register. In addition, the Trenton library will offer two monthly dropin Writers’ Get Togethers (Nov. 8 at 6 p.m. and Nov. 26 at 11 a.m.). For more information, call 902-7521638.

In addition, there are two local author readings coming up. Whit Fraser will share a new adventure thriller set in the Canadian Arctic “The Cold Edge of Heaven” on Nov. 3 at 6:30 p.m. Cheryl Young will share her new book, “Clearing A Path Through Adversity: My CNS Journey” on Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. Both author readings will be inperson at the New Glasgow library and through a live ZOOM webinar.

For more information on upcoming library programs and services, call or drop by your local library, follow us on Twitter, find us on Facebook, or visit us online at www.parl.ns.ca.
