Truro Home & Outdoor Show returning this month

- LYNN CURWIN

It’s a show that combines information on purchasing or renovating a home, energy efficiency, lifestyle products and much more. The Truro Home & Outdoor Show is returning April 26-28 at the Rath-eastlink Community Centre.

“We’ve got some major things happening,” said Sean Miller, show manager with Master Promotions. “For the first time ever, we’ve got a presenting sponsor with Nova Scotia Power. There will be a spotlight on clean energy, with businesses that allow us to be cleaner and greener.”

The clean energy event will help visitors learn how to become more energy efficient and save money. It will include items such as solar panels, smart home automation systems and energy efficient heat pumps.

Visitors will also have an opportunity to test drive an electric vehicle.

For those thinking about purchasing a home, mortgage brokers will be available to provide advice.

“Ninety-one per cent of the people at shows last year were looking at buying or renovating a home in the next 12 months,” said Miller. “A lot of the time, people don’t know what exists before they attend a show, so it’s a bit of a journey. Some of the community’s most informed people are there to answer questions.”

On Saturday, from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m., the Discovery Centre will have an exhibit with hands-on energy activities set up.

There will also be a fourby-eight-foot colouring wall, where children will be able to use markers to create some unique artwork.

The show runs April 26 from noon until 6 p.m.,

April 27 from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m., and April 28 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Admission is $5, with $2 off on Friday. Visitors under the age of 18 are admitted free.

Efficiency Nova Scotia will be handing out show bags at the door, High Country Mechanical will be giving out pens and ballots will be available for the door prize, which is a four-person hot tub from Canadian Spa Company.
