Out and About is your new destination for community events in central Newfoundland

Listings should be typed, 50 words or less, and include the community in which your event is being held. You may also include one photo, if you wish, but it cannot be a poster. Listings will run in print as space allows, as well as and online each week. The deadline is Mondays the week prior to the edition of the paper in which your listing will run.
Exploits Valley - Exploits Aboriginal Community Group (EACG) hosts Bernie’s Puktew every second Sunday from 6-7:30 p.m. This is a youth group and is led by the interests of the youth in the community. Activities are centered around the Mik’maq culture and include drumming, songs, talking circle, traditional crafts and cultural teachings. Any family in the community interested in learning more about the Mik’maq culture or just want to celebrate and honour these traditions are welcome. Next meeting is Oct. 28. Gander - The Retired Teachers’ Association of NL (Central Division) will hold its regular meeting at 11 a.m. at Quality Inn and Suites, Gander. For information call 256-4617, 535-2569, or 489-2929.
UNDERSTANDING LEARNING DISABILITIES
Grand Falls-Windsor - The Learning Disabilities Association of Newfoundland and Labrador will be at the Exploits Community Centre located at 30 Bartle Place from 10-11:30 a.m. for a presentation on “Understanding Learning Disabilities.” This presentation is open to the public but we ask that you please call the centre at 489-2141 and register as space is limited.
YOUTH PAINT NIGHT
La Scie – La Scie Public Library Youth Paint Night for ages nine plus at 6:30 p.m. All programming is free of charge. Registration is required due to limited space.
HALLOWEEN WAKEATHON Harbour Breton – Harbour Breton Community Youth Network will be hosting a free Halloween wakeathon for youth starting at midnight until 7 a.m. All youth are welcome, however to participate you will need to fill out a permission slip available from youth workers. Creepy movies, pizza, treat breakfast, Halloween games, campfire, ghost stories and so much more.
Gander - The Gander and Area Food Bank will be having a food drive from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at area supermarkets. A list of regularly used items will be given out at the entrances.
Badger - Please join the Men’s & Women’s Organization at the Parish Centre for the fourth annual Craft Fair from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. There will be local vendors at this event with lots of products to choose from. All proceeds from this event will be donated to the Men’s & Women’s Organization. Lunch will be available at this event — cold plates, baked beans, soup, chilli, and moose burgers will be served.
COLD PLATE FUNDRAISER
Road Hawks Riding Club fourth annual fundraiser with proceeds going towards helping put a smile on our seniors’ faces this Christmas. Cold plates for sale for $8. Norris Arm – Norris Arm Recreation Committee presents the fourth annual Norris Arm Craft Show 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at Valley Lounge. Admission $2. Children under five are free.

CAMP CONNECT HALLOWEEN PARTY
Harbour Breton - Harbour Breton Community Youth Network will be hosting a Camp Connect Halloween Party beginning at 6:30 p.m. Door prize and Halloween king and queen, lots of Halloween goodies, Halloween games and dancing and more. Don’t forget to invite your friends and wear your costume.
BEYOND THE OVERPASS
Gander - Beyond The Overpass young artists present an evening of comedy improv and musical theatre performances - Halloween themed! This is a fundraiser for Beyond’s youth arts programming. Admission is by donation. The evening starts at
7 p.m. at St. Martin’s Hall on Airport Boulevard. There will also be a bake sale and silent auction.
Gander - RCW will hold a card game on at 8 p.m. at the McCarthy Centre. Refreshments will be served and all are welcome.
CHRISTMAS CRAFT FAIR
Botwood - Royal Canadian Legion, 7 Circular Rd, Botwood, Annual Christmas Craft Fair from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Lots of fabulous Christmas gift ideas, soup and hot dogs and 50/50 draw. Admission $2 proceeds and donations going to Preserver 21 Sea Cadets, Botwood.
Grand Falls-Windsor - Holy Trinity ACW will be holding a jumble sale between 9 a.m. and 12 noon at the church, Beaumont Ave., Grand Falls-Windsor. Donations for sale can be dropped off at the church on Friday, Oct. 26. Not accepting big electronics or furniture, dirty or broken items.
CHRISTMAS CRAFT FAIR
Botwood - The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 5 Botwood will be holding their annual Christmas Craft Fair on Saturday, Oct. 27 from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Homemade soup, hot dogs, coffee and tea will be served. Admission at the door is $2 with the proceeds being donated to the RCSCC Preserver 21 Sea Cadet Corps. Plenty of vendors and lots of great gift ideas.

Family Resource Centres in the Exploits Valley visited Mark’s Market Thursday, Oct. 4, to celebrate Family Week. Emma Foss, who just turned three, was one of the children who attended from Bishop’s Falls. Children, families and caregivers who attended Family Moments in Grand Falls-Windsor, Anchor in Botwood and Stay and Play in Bishop’s Falls visited the pumpkin patch.
