Youngsters can get a taste of baseball and softball through the new Lil’ Sluggers coed league.

The Chatham Minor Baseball Association and Chatham Girls Minor Softball Association have teamed up to teach fundamental skills to 3-5 year-olds during an eight-week program in June and July.

“This partnership cements the CMBA and CGMSA commitment to developing our youngest players to strengthen both organizations for years to come,” CMBA president Jason Chickowski said in a statement. Five-year-olds (born in 2014) will play Mondays and 3-4 year-olds (born in 2015-16) will play Wednesdays.

The $25 registration fee includes a team T-shirt and medal.

“We have always been dedicated to keeping registration fees as low as possible to make playing the game as accessible to as many kids as we can” CGMSA president Bryan Depencier said, “and by teaming up with Chatham Minor Baseball and sharing some of our resources, we are able to do exactly that.”

Lil’ Sluggers replaces the minor baseball mite clinic and the minor softball Blastball program.

Go to ckea or chathamminorbase to register or receive more information. Online registration at the CMBA site begins Feb. 1.
