-

The Halifax Hurricanes signed all-star Chris Johnson for the upcoming NBL Canada season on Tuesday.

Johnson (North Preston) was acquired by the Hurricanes in an off-season trade with the Sudbury 5.

The six-foot-five guard/ forward was named an AllCanadian second team last year as a member of the Cape Breton Highlanders. He averaged 14 points, four rebounds, and two assists per game.

Johnson played high school at Auburn Drive before graduating to the NCAA with St. Bonaventure University.

“We are very pleased to be able to have Chris, a veteran player and an outstanding local talent with us for the upcoming season,” said head coach Mike Leslie. “He had a very successful overseas career for a number of years and followed that up with two very productive seasons in our league.

“Chris will provide key offensive scoring as well as leadership to his younger Hurricane teammates. He will represent the Hurricanes well in our community relations as a role model to youth who wish to pursue their dreams and goals on and off the basketball court.”
