JESUDASON, Jegasothy "Lilly"

-

In the words of her 5-yearold granddaughter, "Grandma is the best Grandma in the world". On Monday, November 4, 2019, the best Grandma in the world passed away peacefully in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Lilly was born on April 30, 1932, in Inuvil, Sri Lanka (Ceylon). As a child, she grew up in the hill country of Sri Lanka often living on the rich tea plantations. She and her now deceased husband, Joseph Jesudason came to Canada in 1966, along with their son, Joseph, and daughter, Rajini. They landed in Caledonia, Queens Co., where both taught as teachers before eventually moving to Liverpool, where the family cemented their roots and the couple had their third child, Lester. Lilly would famously host Christmas/Holiday parties at the family house where immigrants from all over the province would come to share friendship and a good meal regardless of religious denomination. She would ensure each person had their own unique gift delivered from Santa himself! Lilly was a lady of few words but an inspiration to all who were fortunate enough to know her. While she struggled with rheumatoid arthritis for over 45 years which developed into advanced lung disease, she showed tremendous courage in how she battled the disease, defying the odds many times. She did so with a unique sense of humour and appreciation for life. Her faith, strength, and courage set an example for everyone. At the ripe "young" age of 82, she was blessed with her only grandchild who brought a lot of joy to her life in her final years. While Lilly’s arthritic fingers didn’t allow her to carry her granddaughter, the love she carried in her heart for her family carried all of us. Lilly was predeceased by her husband, Joseph; her brothers, Alfred Paul and Christian Paul; her sister, Joyce Ariyaratnam. Her sister Felicia Rajaniyagam, passed away two days after Lilly’s passing. Lilly is survived by her children, Joseph, Rajini and Lester (Moneesha); her granddaughter; sister, Chrishanthi (Gnana) Thevathasan; her niece, Premila Ariyaratnam, Halifax; and many other nieces and nephews. The family wish to thank the home care workers that treated Lilly like family. They allowed her to remain with dignity in her home until her recent hospitalization. There will be a visitation on Saturday, November 9th, from 12 to 1 p.m. in Trinity United Church (67 Trinity Way, Timberlea) followed by a funeral service at 1 p.m. Family flowers only. Donations, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Trinity United Church, Timberlea. Online condolences may be posted at: www.atlanticfuneralhomes.com
