Kessel leads U.S. past Canada 4-1

Amada Kessel had a goal and an assist as the United States downed Canada 4-1 in the first game of the women's hockey Rivalry Series on Saturday night at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn.

Canada opened the scoring at 6:45 of the first period on Victoria Bach's power-play marker.

Megan Keller, Abby Roque and Alex Carpenter also scored for the U.S.

Halifax's Jill Saulnier and Stellarton's Blayre Turnbull played for Canada.

The second game of the series is Tuesday in Moncton at 7:30 p.m.
