Mooseheads, Eagles make deals

-

The Halifax Mooseheads continued wheeling and dealing on Monday. And the Cape Breton Eagles got in on the action during the second day of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League trade period.

A day after trading veteran defencemen Patty Kyte and Walter Flower in separate deals, the Mooseheads sent 20-year-old forward Maxim Trepanier to the Shawinigan Cataractes for a second round pick in the 2020 QMJHL draft.

Trepanier, who was acquired by Halifax from the Gatineau Olympiques in a trade last season, appeared in 38 regular-season games for the Mooseheads and tallied 23 goals and 49 points. The Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Que., native added 20 points in 22 playoff games last season.

The second-rounder from Shawinigan is the fourth 2020 draft pick added by the Mooseheads since the QMJHL trade period opened Sunday. Flower was dealt to the Rimouski Oceanic for second and fourth round picks while Kyte was traded to Chicoutimi for a first-round pick.

The Mooseheads recalled defenceman Denis Toner from the Maritime Junior Hockey League's Grand Falls Rapids and promoted 16-year-old rookie Keegan Hunt.

Meanwhile, the Eagles made a pair of trades on Monday.

Cape Breton acquired defenceman Xavier Bouchard from the Baie-Comeau Drakkar in exchange for blue-liner Alex Falardeau and two second round draft picks (Baie-Comeau's in 2020 and Cape Breton's in 2021)

Bouchard, Baie-Comeau's first round draft choice in 2016 (fifth overall), has collected 10 points and 37 penalty minutes in 31 games this season, his fourth in the QMJHL. The 19-year-old was a sixth-round draft pick by the Vegas Golden Knights in 2018. Falardeau, a 17-year-old rookie, had one assist in 30 games with the Eagles this season.

In a separate trade with BaieComeau earlier in the day, Cape Breton acquired forward Logan Camp of Bedford in exchange for Rouyn-Noranda's ninth-round draft pick in 2020. Camp will remain with the Halifax McDonalds of the Nova Scotia major midget league. The Eagles also announced that they have reassigned forward David Doucet and defenceman Matthew Lint to either junior A or midget.
