CALLEGARI, Tullio Idillio "Eddy"

-

It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Tullio Idillio "Eddy" Callegari. He passed away Friday, December 13, 2019 at home surrounded by his immediate family. Eddy was born in Bannia, Italy on September 11, 1933, the youngest of nine children. He was predeceased by his father, Gio Batta Callegari; his mother, Luigia (Muzzin) Callegari; as well as his brothers and sisters. In May of 1955 he immigrated to Canada, arriving in Halifax through Pier 21 on May 10th and travelled to Toronto to stay with his sister and brotherin-law and to ply his trade as a bricklayer. Work brought him back to Nova Scotia where he met and married his wife of 56 years, Marjorie (Barnes) Callegari and raised three children, John Franco Callegari, Carla Luigia Callegari (David Boon) and Giuliana Marie Callegari (Thorne Stanley), all of Nova Scotia. Eddy was a lifetime member of the Bricklayers and Allied Craftworkers Local 1 and worked on many projects throughout the province. In his younger years he enjoyed fishing and hunting in Sherbrooke with his wife and son. He also enjoyed gardening and wine-making and was both a hockey and soccer fan. Eddy’s family was very important to him and he enjoyed his time with his wife, children and especially his granddaughters, Katia Callegari and Lauren Boon. Many thanks to the Palliative Care unit and Barbara Stewart for assisting in Eddy’s care and allowing him to remain home with family, as well as thanks to Alessio and Sylvana Gardin for their assistance in making calls to family members in Italy. Special thanks to my sister Kelli Mansfield for her love and support throughout this difficult time. In keeping with Eddy’s wishes, there will be no service or visitation. A family burial will be at a later date in Sherbrooke. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society or St. James Anglican Cemetery Fund, 38-58 Old Road Hill, Sherbrooke, NS B0J 3C0.
