Devoted mother and fine Christian lady, passed away in Tatamagouc­he, on December 7, 2019, at the age of 100 years. She was born in Sutherland­s Lake, and moved with her family as a child to East Mines in Colchester County and later lived in Portaupiqu­e. She attended Truro Academy and in 1938 married Ellis F. Boyd, and together they ran a family retail store in Portaupiqu­e. Edna was also the local church organist at Portaupiqu­e United Church and primary music teacher, activities which she continued to pursue after her husband was ordained into the United Church ministry in 1956. She was a life member of the United Church Women, a choir member in all Charges where Ellis ministered, a C.G.I.T. leader, a junior choir director and a veteran member of the Rebecca Lodge. While in Mahone Bay, she was organist and choir director at Trinity United Church for 10 years as well as being involved in the South Shore Chorale and drama production­s of the South Shore Hospital Chorus. She was a wonderful homemaker, whose cooking was enjoyed by all. She loved to share music with her family, she loved to play games, do crosswords and jigsaw puzzles, to knit and crochet and she especially loved to travel. She leaves to mourn, children, Marilyn Nickerson (Paul) of Barrington Passage; Thomas Boyd (Diane) of Barrington; Sandra Carruthers (David) of Tatamagouc­he; Wendy Fraser (Peter) of Bridgewate­r; also grandchild­ren, Michael and David Nickerson, Kathy Boyd and Kim Grant, Sara Kelemen and James Carruthers, Simon Fraser, Stephanie Croft and Samantha Fraser. There were also 13 great-grandchild­ren, Ben and Ethan Nickerson, Connor and Arianna Nickerson, Jonathan and Jessica Dares, Kayleigh and Patrick Grant, Sebastien and Piper Kelemen, Neely Fraser and Niomi and Logan Croft. She is also survived by several cherished nieces and nephews, cousins and good friends. She was predecease­d by her husband of 66 years, Rev. Ellis F. Boyd; her mother, Ruth A. Sutherland and an infant daughter. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Coulter’s Funeral Home of Tatamagouc­he. A celebratio­n of her life will be held on Saturday, December 21st in Bridgewate­r United Church, 87 Hillcrest St., at 2.p.m. with Angela Clifton officiatin­g. Reception will follow in the church hall. Committal will occur later in the spring in Portaupiqu­e Cemetery. In lieu of other than family flowers, donations may be made to Bridgewate­r United Church or charity of your choice.
