Age 78, of Enfield, passed away peacefully with her family by her side after a courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by her loving husband, Leo and her children, John (Lesley), Fredericto­n; Marnie Desbas (Stanley), New Jersey; Peggy, Dartmouth; Gail Taylor (Chris), Bedford; Becky Chisholm (Ken), Sackville, and Sara Hutt (John), Bedford; her beloved grandchild­ren, Angus, Alex, Ella, Emmelia, Charlie, Mac, Lillian, and Grace, and sisters, Lorraine MacDonald and Dorothy Scott. She was predecease­d by her parents, Laurence and Emmeline MacDonald, and siblings, Sterling, Patricia, Joan, John, Lewis and Gloria. Monica was born and raised in Halifax and loved the city. Married for 52 years, she was a devoted wife to Leo and a loving mother and grandmothe­r. She made weekends special, with trips to the camp, walks in the woods, Sunday drives, visits to the library and camping with her family. She loved music and enjoyed singing and playing with her family. She loved her backyard, taking care of the birds and her rose bushes, reading, and a hot cup of tea. She was unwavering in her Catholic faith. Our heartfelt gratitude to Dawn Ross, the VON team, and Dr. Fraser and Dr. Montgomeri­e. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Thursday, December 19th, with a funeral mass at 11 a.m., Friday, December 20th, both in St. Bernard’s Church, Enfield, Father Michael Walsh officiatin­g. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, St. Bernard’s CWL, or a library of your choice. Arrangemen­ts are under the direction of Arimathea Funeral Cooperativ­e, Upper Musquodobo­it.
