BURGESS, Moira Pauline

-

Mom, Grammie, Bubba, Moira, Vatch passed peacefully at home on Wednesday, July 1, 2020, at the age of 82. Born in North Sydney, she was the daughter of the late Milton and Hilda (Andrews) Vatcher. Moira grew up in North Sydney, and at 17 moved to Windsor to train as a nurse at the Payzant Memorial Hospital. While there, she caught the eye of a dashing and debonair musician, fell in love, and the rest is history. She started her career at Payzant Memorial Hospital before taking a break to raise her children. Widowed young, she raised an athlete, an animal lover and an academic, loving each fiercely. Moving the family from the farm into town, she bought a house where she installed a pool and an elaborate family room to encourage the kids to spend time at home. It worked a little bit too well, and Moira soon had at least a dozen kids for whom she acted as lifeguard, popcorn maker and counsellor. She also listened to more April Wine and Michael Jackson than any parent should have to. During these years, she returned to work as an obstetrics nurse on the evening shift at Hants Community Hospital, helping bring many babies into the world. She finished her career at Haliburton Place in 1998. Moira was an avid sports Mom, supporting her children and grandchildren in their endeavors. She was a huge Sidney Crosby fan and followed the Blue Jays. She also loved music, often singing for herself or for whoever was around. She was part of a group of merry Windsor widows known as the Seven Spanish Angels, who rarely missed a Windsor Schooners or Mud League game, where they could sometimes be convinced to offer their opinion of the officiating. She was the best mother, grandmother, friend, co-worker, and daughter-in-law ever, filling that role with not only her own family but also her family’s friends. She was famous for her chocolate chip cookies, birthday cookies and hot cross buns. She loved music and enjoyed being a member of the Christ Church Anglican choir for over 50-years. She loved hosting dinner parties and encouraged her guests to dress up. In retirement, she travelled with her many friends and enjoyed her grandchildren. She is survived by children, Jeffrey (Michelle), Heather (Brenton) and Paul (Helen); grandchildren, Ashley Forward, Kate Burgess, Heather Burgess, and Lucy Burgess; sisters, Sylvia (Susie) Bartlett (John), and Nancy Guy (Calvin); grandpups, Levi, Rio, Creed, and Murphy; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by Harry, her husband of 16 years; her mother-in-law and best friend in life, Mildred Burgess; sisters, Gwen and Shirley; and brother, James. The family would like to thank caregivers Karen Mccarthy, Barb Goodine, Amber Phillips, and Dr. Amanda Macdonald for their extraordinary compassion and care. Cremation has taken place under the care of the Lindsay Windsor Funeral Home, 194 King Street, Windsor, NS B0N 2T0. Visitation will be 6-9 p.m., Friday, July 10th, in Lindsay Windsor Funeral Home. P.O. Box 2218 Windsor, NS B0N 2T0 (social distancing will be required). Memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, July 11th, in Christ Church Anglican, King Street, Windsor. Rev. David Curry officiating. Interment will be in Maplewood Cemetery, 1186 King St., Windsor. Donations in memory may be made to Hants Community Hospital, 89 Payzant Dr., Windsor, NS B0N 2T0.
