Age 86, of New Glasgow, passed away peacefully on July 5, 2020 in Aberdeen Hospital with his wife Rose and daughter Pam by his side. He was born in Sydney Mines, a son of the late Ambrose and Flo Gouthro. He was predecease­d by his siblings, Peter, Stella, Eddie, Rita, Amby, Tullie, and Alfie. Stan is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Rose; son, Scott (Christine); daughter Pam (Terry) Goodwin; and grandchild­ren, Sherrill Mackeigan, Stephanie (Bert) Anderson, TJ, Jeffery, and Taylor Goodwin; and his greatgrand­sons, Nash and Noah Anderson, the highlight of his life. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, James Macdonald, and sister-in-law, Yvette Gouthro; and several nieces and nephews. He was a well-known chef in Pictou County, working at the Norfolk Hotel, the Heather Motor Hotel, Peter Pan, and Smitty’s. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus, the Cursillo Group, and volunteere­d for the Shepherd’s Lunch Room. He loved a good game of crib, but first of all, he was an ardent fisherman. Not only did Stan play baseball, he was a diehard Blue Jays fan, even when they weren’t doing so well. He was a good neighbour, and a kind and giving man. He had a heart of gold and will be missed by all who knew him. There will be no visitation. Instead a private family funeral will be held in St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, where he was a member. A Celebratio­n of Life will be held at a later date. Donations in his memory may be made to the Victorian Order of Nurses or Knights of Columbus. Arrangemen­ts are under the direction of R.H. Porter Funeral Home.
