MURPHY, Vance William Harry

It is with great sadness that the family announces that Vance William Harry Murphy passed away peacefully at age 74 on July 6, 2020 in the VG Site, QEII, after a short battle with cancer. Vance was born in Halifax on September 20, 1945 to parents, Victor and Violet (Halfyard) Murphy. He was avidly involved in sports in his younger years including football, softball and hockey. In later years he coached softball and played Old Timers Hockey. Vance had the privilege to coach the California Cuties Softball Team and the NHL Old Timers Hockey Team on occasion. Vance retired after 30 years from the Halifax Fire Department and while he worked as a Firefighte­r, he also worked for several years part-time at Sears with many of his fellow firefighte­r brothers. Vance was predecease­d by his parents and leaves behind his loving wife of 33 years, Juanita (Stockton) Murphy; brother-in-law, Ron Stockton; son, Jeff (Leslie) Murphy; daughter, Jill (Bill) Perry and twin granddaugh­ters, Lauren and Ella Perry. He is also survived by sister, Valerie (Kevin) Mclean; niece, Patricia (Dan) Simonton; uncle, Walter (Jeanette) Murphy; aunt, Hazel Murphy and many other extended family members. Vance will also be missed by his cats, Skittles and Hazel and many other family and neighborho­od pets. Special thanks to Dr. Mccormick (Cobequid Center), the nurses on 5A at the VG, Dr. Hollanhurs­t, and especially Dr. Allen who went above and beyond. There will be a Celebratio­n of Life at a later date to be determined. Donations may be made to the QEII Burn Unit or Canadian Cancer Society in memory of Vance Murphy.
