It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Mary "Carmel" Jessome on Sunday, July 5, 2020 at the age of 83. Born in Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, August 22, 1936; Carmel was a daughter of the late Jessie (Campbell) and Edgar Hickey. She was predecease­d by her brothers, Sandy and Peter; and sister, Beverly.

Survived by her loving husband, Roderick Jessome; her children, Darrell (Pamela) Jessome, Shoneth (Larry) Woodland, Alicia Jessome, Joel (Jacqueline) Jessome. Also survived by her grandchild­ren, Jessica (Brett), Brett (Tara), Benjamin (Elizabeth), Jonathan (Kali), Kaelah (Trevor), Nicholas (Hilary), Adam (Cameron), Jared, Jevan (Megan), Ryley (Kyla), Matthew, Rachel, and great-grandchild­ren, Knox, Kruz and Sophie; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews. She is survived by her siblings, Tom (Diane) Hickey, Leone Egan and Danny (Leona) Hickey.

Carmel graduated from St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, North Sydney as a Registered Nurse. She later received her Reality Therapy Certificat­e from UCCB and Post Graduate Study in Psychiatry. Carmel was head of Metro Drug Dependency and an instrument­al founding member of Drug Dependency Programs.

Carmel was devoted to her family and faith. She was loving, she was kind, she was fierce, and a warrior when it came to protecting her children and the people she loved. She prayed the rosary every day for all of us!

Public visitation will be held Friday, July 10th from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Drive. Masks are encouraged, social distancing will be observed. A private funeral service will be held on Saturday. The service may be live-streamed starting at 10:50 a.m. at: www.distantlin­k.com/Dlm32.html (The password is: Arbor2020). A Celebratio­n Mass will be held at a later date.
