DUGGAN (Kenny), Mary Kathleen "Kay"

-

After living with dementia for a number of years, Kay ( Mary Kathleen Kenny) Duggan, 19332020, died gently and peacefully, on November 27th, in Saint Vincent’s Nursing Home. Our Mom was truly "Special Kay"! In her early life, Mom lived in Fairview where she finished grade school and then completed High School at Saint Patrick’s Girls School. She then graduated from the newly-constructed Halifax Vocational School. Mom completed a Diploma in Lay Pastoral Ministry and a Certificate in Lay Liturgical Ministry at the Atlantic School of Theology and, with Dad, assisted many people in developing their relationship with God. Mom welcomed life as it came to her as daughter, sister, friend, wife, in-law, mother, aunt, cousin, and grandmother. Mom developed many lasting friendships that transcended decades and created wonderful memories and funny stories of gatherings with family, "Club", the church community, workplace, and the neighborhoods where we lived. Our house was always open, a place of hospitality for anyone who came to visit. In later years Momand Dad enjoyed travel, especially river cruising in Europe, where they met and welcomed new friends. Mom lived her faith to the fullest and will be remembered as a person of dignity and grace who had a wonderful way of trusting and knowing that she was loved by God. With the instructions for her funeral, Mom asked these words from Isaiah 43 be read: "But now, thus says the Lord who created you and formed you. Fear not, for I have redeemed you, I have called you by name, you are mine ... Because you are precious in my eyes and glorious, and because I love you. Fear not, for I am with you." To everyone who knew Mom it is no surprise that she died only two months and one day after our Dad. We celebrate their love story; it began about 75 years ago, and it goes on! Mom is survived by her children and their families: Brian (Beth Moser), Halifax, and Angela, Robbie, and Janice and their families; Michael, Halifax; Peter (Sherri), and Courtney, Calgary; Christopher (Sun) and Aiden, Alex and Nicole, Saskatoon; Nora (Scott) Perry and Nicolas and Elizabeth, Halifax; Ruth (Otto Van Barneveld), Marriott’s Cove; Patrick (Lisa Harrison) and Peyton, Lauren and Katie, Halifax; Margaret (Doug) Lewis and Jenna, Lower Sackville; her sistersin-law, Dana Murray (Paul), Judy Stanley, Gloria Venio; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, William Eric Duggan; their children, Thomas, Carol and Lawrence (Lou); her parents, James Bernard and Mary Kathleen (Tough) Kenny; her sister, Noreen; brothers, Bernard, Herb and Ronald; and Holly Van Barneveld. Mom was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Arrangements are in the care of Cruickshank’s Funeral Home, Halifax. Cremation has taken place. Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions on public gatherings, we will hold a private family burial service. When it is time for a public celebration, we will provide an announcement with the details. Meanwhile, we invite you to view "Memories of Mom" on the Cruickshank’s website. https://www.dignitymemo-rial.com/en-ca/obituaries/halifax-ns/mary-duggan-9921386 We would like to express our appreciation to the entire staff of Saint Vincent’s Nursing Home where Mom lived for the last number of years.
