MUENZER, Herman Paul

Herman Paul Muenzer, born June 19, 1937 in Daysland Alta., passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on November 30, 2020 in Halifax. He passed peacefully, having one hand held by his wife and the other by his daughter. He accomplished many things over his long and rewarding life. He grew up in Northern Alberta on a mink farm. He was accepted into the military under their RMC program which sent him to university to become an engineer. Upon graduation he served in the Royal Canadian Navy flying helicopters off destroyers and the venerable HMCS Bonaventure. After leaving the navy he drove taxi cabs in Montreal and worked at engineering firms until he was hired by Air Canada in 1966. He absolutely loved flying for Air Canada and often said that he had won the lottery with that job. He retired as a Training Captain on the Airbus A340. During retirement he never stopped. He and Connie moved to Clementsport where he started a chamber of commerce in a community where he did not own a business. He also tried his hand at haskap berry farming. While he was never successful at growing the plant his lines in the field were immaculately clean and straight. People would often stop their cars and stare. His tractor was rumoured to be amajor contributor to global warming as it never seemed to stop running. If he wasn’t on his tractor then he was on his riding mower keeping his 13 acres neat. The neighbours were extremely tolerant. For many years he did taxes for people in his community at cost or for free. He was very fond of bridge and the group of people that he played with. He was happy to talk to anyone who would listen, and trips to the post office or outside to remove snow (with the help of his tractor) sometimes took days. He had many, many friends in Clementsport and his family wishes to thank everyone for their kind words and thoughts. There will be a celebration of his life when our life on the East Coast returns to normal and we can hug and be together again. He is survived by his wife, Connie Muenzer; his children, Paul, Eric and Allison; his sister, Trudy; and his many nieces, nephews, grandkids and friends. In lieu of flowers or donations, themuenzer family asks only that you take a moment to hug someone you love, call a friend, or just enjoy the beauty of an ordinary day as life can be fleeting.
