MCCABE, Sidney Byers "Sid"

Age 83, passed away peacefully, Thursday, January 7, 2021 in Debert Court, Debert. Born in Harmony, Colchester Co., he was a son of the late Seldon and Jean (Whidden) Mccabe. Sid went to work for the CNR in 1956 as a Morse Operator and worked at many small train stations throughout Nova Scotia. He worked for the CNR for 35 years but always did carpentry work in his spare time to "make a little extra". He spent many hours in his workshop doing woodworkin­g projects or making things on the lathe for people that came from all over. He was a proud "east-ender" living the majority of his life in Truro. Sid was a member of Brunswick Street United Church, Truro, where he sang in the choir. He enjoyed square dancing with Mom and the "Strathmore Strutters". He enjoyed the day trips they would take to where ever the car stopped. He liked to be on the move. Sid is survived by sons, Rob ( Kathy), East Mountain; Jim (Cindy), Salmon River; grandchild­ren, Tara, Jennifer, Stephanie, Evan, Hailey; great-grandson, Mac; brother, Gordon (Liz); sister, Arlene ( Eric) Farr; many nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, he was predecease­d by his wife of 54 years, Carol (Rose) Mccabe; brothers, Guy, Lynn; sister, Norma; nephew, Kenny; niece, Sharon. No visitation by family request. A Graveside Service will take place at a later date in Watson Cemetery, 1997 East Prince St., Salmon River, Colchester Co. Arrangemen­ts are under the direction of Mattatall~varner Funeral Home, 55 Young St., Truro. If so desired, donations in Sid’s memory may be made to Brunswick Street United Church, Alzheimer’s Society of Nova Scotia or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
