Age 77, peacefully passed away January 6, 2021 in Yarmouth Regional Hospital, surrounded by her family. Her son Kelvin "Kelly", wife Kylia, grandsons Kelsy and Kyle and greatgrand­daughter Sierrah of Ottawa were also with her via video because of COVID-19 restrictio­ns. She was born on October 3, 1943 in Clark’s Harbour. She worked as a telephone operator in her early years and traveled the world as a military wife and curling enthusiast for the mid-part and spent her later years back in Nova Scotia. Karen had a long battle with her health over the past few years, although she fought long and hard her body just couldn’t take anymore. She is now reunited with her one and only love of 43 years, the late W. Kelvin "Kelly" O’neill (of Marmora, Ont.). She was a devoted and loving mother, grandmothe­r, great-grandmothe­r, aunt, sister, cousin and friend to so many people. Everywhere she went she made a memorable impression on someone, she had a beautiful smile and a heartmade of gold to match. She will be missed too deeply for words. Besides her son, grandsons and granddaugh­ter, Karen is survived by her brother, Stephen Newell; brother-in-law, Ronald Cunningham; several nieces and nephews. Karen was predecease­d by her mother, Sherrill (Atkinson) Newell; stepfather, Preston Newell and Robert and Ruth Rennehan who raised Karen; brother, Christophe­r Newell and sister, Joan Cunningham. Arrangemen­ts are under the care and direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Barrington. A funeral service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rosalin Nickerson Care Fund or any charity of choice.
