MOORE, Gerald Ellis "Gerry"

-

1940-2021. It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Gerry Moore announces his sudden and unexpected passing in Moncton, N.B., on Tuesday, January 5, 2021, at the age of 80. Born December 15, 1940 in Fredericton, he was the son of the late Ellis and Florence (Barton) Moore. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 61 years, Linda Moore (Abernethy) and his children, Kim Costin (Douglas), G. Danny Moore (Sherry), Rick Moore, all of Moncton; and Kelli Cheverie (Sean), Amherst; his grandchildren, Brandon Moore, Christopher, Jonathan, Matthew and Nicholas Cheverie and Ashley and Brady Moore; his sisters, Joyce Booker (Hilly), Janice Brown; and many nieces and nephews. Gerry was predeceased by his sister, Sandra Burden; Linda’s parents, Dow and Florence Abernethy; and brothers-in-law, David Brown, Paul Abernethy and Donald Cowperthwaite. From a young age, Gerry had a passion for hockey, playing for the Fredericton Capitals, Woodstock Karnes, Saint John Oilers, St. Stephen Aces, Blacks Harbour Silver Kings, and Amherst Fun Timers. His passion led to a successful and diverse career, working with Rosser Sales & Equipment, Irving Oil, Lounsbury’s Equipment, Merrithew Construction, Connors Bros., Midland Transport, EP Melanson and Mcdonald’s. Gerry retired as a proud, 20-year Mcdonald’s franchisee for Amherst and Sackville, N. B., and remembered those years as the happiest of his career. He was a recipient of the prestigious "Ronald" award and was known for his development of the "Mclobster" sandwich for Canada. Gerry also served on many boards including the Nova Scotia Business Development Board. Gerry loved people and had a remarkable ability to walk into a room and make everyone feel special. He was a man of many talents but none shone through more than his ability to capture an audience with his infectious personality and enthusiasm when telling a story and making a past connection. His legacy will live on not only through his children and grandchildren but also through the many lives he touched and from his generosity as a communityminded individual. He helped shape so many communities in so many positive ways and will be fondly remembered by many. Gerry loved his Mcdonald’s family, his Royal Oaks Community and his winters in Ponce Inlet, Fla., with his many friends and especially his best friend, Don Mclean. A private family service and interment will be held in Fredericton at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, Ronald Mcdonald House Charities Atlantic or a charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family.
