D’ENTREMONT, Delbert Louis

-

It is with heavy hearts that we, the family of Delbert d’entre mont, announce his passing on February 28, 2021. Delbert passed away peacefully in The Meadows Home for Special Care with his family by his side. Born Adelbert Louis d’entremont on June 8, 1931 in Lower West Pubnico, Delbert led a full life. In his youth Delbert worked and learned carpentry with his father, it was a skill that he excelled at and used his entire life building many homes and cottages. After marrying his wife, he commuted to Jordan Bay weekly to work for d’entremont Fisheries in order to provide for the family. In 1960, he moved his young family to Yarmouth to work at NSLC, where he soon became manager and with whom he went on to enjoy a 30year career. As many would attest, Delbert had a passion for hunting, fishing, golfing, snowmobiling, and boating, spending countless days with family and friends enjoying the outdoors. After building a cottage in Forest Glen where many a summer and winter day were spent, Delbert spent hours hauling his kids and grandkids around Lake Ogden during the summer, as they enjoyed water skiing or tubing. He also loved traveling to Newfoundland regularly for moose hunting, salmon fishing and snowmobiling, his patient and well-behaved children were the best of travelling companions. Delbert and his wife Clotilda enjoyed traveling around the province with their fifth-wheel travel trailer to many Bluegrass festivals where they made many friends. Delbert will no doubt be remembered by many for his 30 years of gunsmithing in his basement on Tooker Street, and later in Forest Glen. His claim to fame may be meeting Gina Lollobrigida on Roberts Island the night Pasta Primavera was invented. Delbert was a very active member of his community, having been involved in Yarmouth Minor Hockey, the Yarmouth Diocesan Council, volunteer fire departments in Pubnico, Yarmouth and Carleton, the Knights of Columbus, St. Ambrose Cathedral Choir as well as having served on the Appeals Board for EI and as former president of the Management Union for NSLC. But Delbert’s biggest passion was his family, and they will miss him dearly. In 2002, Delbert suffered a stroke and life, as he knew it, changed. He was cared-for by his loving and devoted wife for ten years and for the past eight years, Delbert has called The Meadows Home for Special Care his home. Delbert is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 64 years, Clotilda Marguerite (d’eon) d’entremont; as well as by their children, Floyd (Carol) d’entremont, Amherst; Elroy (Suzanne) d’entremont, Yarmouth; Clayton (Rosella) d’entremont, Dartmouth; Karen (Gerard) Lindsay and Dwayne d’entremont (Lori Pennell), both of Yarmouth; as well as by grandchildren, Kory d’entremont, Listette d’entremont ( Patrick Sanderson), Phillip ( Kaitlynn) d’entremont, Alix d’entremont (Trevor Saulnier), Renée d’entremont, Nicholas d’entremont (Kasey Pilon); stepgrandchildren, Brooke, Jenny and Grayson; great-grandson, Luke Earle d’entremont; stepgreat-grandchildren, Noah, Addie and Anthony.
