TURNER, Gregory Arthur

-

Forever In Our Hearts. August 20, 1948 - February 28, 2021 age 72, of Cole Harbour. It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of our loving father Greg Turner, son of the late Robert and Hilda (Scott) Turner. Dad courageously fought an aggressive cancer that took his life within two short months. Being in hospital for 39 days did not dampen his spirits. His easy-going nature, gentle spirit and love of his family was evident to all those who met him. Dad would always say "if we can’t smile and joke with each other than what do we have? Smiling doesn’t cost us a thing". And in staying true to those words, Dad managed to share his infectious smile with us right up until his final days. Dad will be forever cherished by his loving companion, Karen Langille with whom he happily shared the last 11 years. He will be dearly missed by his daughters: Brenda Schroder, Leanne Wells (Raymond) and grandchildren: Ashley Stanbrook (Shane), Brandon Schroder (Rachel), Kirkland Schroder and Lindsay Wells. Dad’s most blessed and cherished role was that of a grandfather. He was incredibly proud of his four grandchildren and his great-grandson, baby Marlow. Dad will be remembered and sorrowfully missed by his siblings: Glen (Judy) Turner of Cole Harbour; Marg Currie of Cole Harbour; Helen (Bill) Graham of Three Fathom Harbour; Mike ( Jeanette) Turner of Red Deer, Alta.; Linda Guillemette of Edmonton, Alta. and twin brother Greer (Colleen) Turner of New Glasgow with whom he shared an unbreakable bond; sister-in-law, Lynn Turner (Jerry) of Cole Harbour; and many loved nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his brothers: William, Robert, Walter, Harold, Terry; sisters: Elizabeth, Phyllis and Isabelle; son-in-law: Dave. One of Dad’s strongest attributes was his loving, kind heart. He always wore his heart on his sleeve but could also change hats and be a very assertive boss, and his strong work ethic didn’t go unnoted. Dad has instilled in us the importance of hard work. Starting plumbing at the young age of 17 with his older brother Harold, Dad went on to own and operate his own plumbing and heating company for over 38 years and was a well-respected member of the mechanical industry. In his spare time, as a member of the CCCNS, Dad thoroughly enjoyed traveling throughout Nova Scotia to participate in antique car shows, admiring the classic cars and trucks of the province. And even though he was always a lover of classic country music, you’d still catch him tapping his fingers on his knees or tapping his toes to our hip hop tunes too. He has never missed a dance competition, showcase or fundraiser. Gramp was always there to show his support. We are also very proud of Dad for being a regular attendee of the "Keep It Simple" Meetings at Club 24. We will never forget when he was recognized for his three years of commitment. We would like to extend our sincere gratitude for the care and compassion shown by the doctors, nurses and staff at Dartmouth General Hospital, sending a heartfelt thank you to Palliative Care Nurse, Patti MacDougall. Thank you for holding Dad’s hand and offering him comfort just when he needed it most. We cannot express how much we have appreciated your support. Thank you to our family and friends who have sent their prayers and thoughtful words of support during this very difficult time. Sadly, there will be no funeral service during these times of COVID-19. We will host a Celebration of Life for Dad when restrictions are relaxed for larger gatherings. In lieu of flowers, our family would appreciate donations made to Dartmouth General Hospital Foundation Palliative Care. Memorial donations may be made at: dghfoundation.ca or by calling (902) 460-4149. Online condolences may be made by visiting: www.atlanticfuneralhomes.com Dartmouth Chapel.
