WITHROW, James C.

-

Age 81, passed peacefully on Sunday, July 11, 2021 in Halifax, after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. He was at home with his family by his side. Jamie was born in Halifax to James and Margaret (Macintyre) Withrow. He attended Sir Charles Tupper, Cornwallis Junior High, QEH and Dalhousie University. He sailed, played hockey, basketball and football in his school days. He enjoyed travel for work in other parts of Canada but was a Haligonian at heart. He began a successful real estate business with his brother John in the late 60’s. Jamie was a Philae Shriner and advocate for donating blood to the Red Cross, having given over 100 units. He enjoyed and supported minor sports, music, curling at the Mayflower, sailing, sunshine and lasting friendships. He was always keen to listen and observe and he entertained others with his sharp, witty one-liners and genuine thoughtfulness. Jamie was preceded in death by his parents, James and Margaret; brother, John; sister-in-law, Patricia Swain and her husband John. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Margaret (Cuming), Halifax; his daughters, Heather (Karl) Kowalczyk, Halifax; Stacy (Darren) Fichter, Calgary, and grandchildren, Thomas, Ben, Ella, Josh and Sophie, who were so important to him; sisterin-law, Carolyn Withrow; brother-in-law, Bob Cuming and Jane; niece, Karen; nephews, John, Eric, Chris and many close cousins. Our thanks to the support teams that allowed Jamie to be at home: Palliative, Continuing care, VON, EHS Homecare and Dr. David Wood. In keeping with Jamie’s wishes there will be no visitation or service. A private Committal of ashes will take place in The Cathedral Church of All Saints. If you wish, memorial donations may be made to the Philae Shriners Children’s Travel Fund NS & PEI, PO Box 9050, Stn A, Hfx. NS B3K 5M7.
