A great light faded with the gentle passing of Clara Thomas on July 14, 2021, in Halifax. Born 1930 in Margaree Forks to Leo D. Carroll and Sally (Tompkins) Carroll; Clara loved family, friends and entertaini­ng. She was known for her generosity and wit, keeping her humor to the end entertaini­ng visitors with stories and telling fortunes. Clara was an avid reader and enjoyed politics and current affairs. As a young woman, she wrote for Cape Breton newspapers. Although Clara completed vocational training in bookkeepin­g, she stayed home providing support to her family. She was a member of Ladies Auxiliary of the Royal Canadian Legion (Centennial) and served as president for one term. She also volunteere­d with womens organizati­ons during her many years living in Dartmouth. Clara was married to William "Bill" Thomas in 1953 until his death in January 2000. She is survived by her daughter, Sadie Ann (Thomas) Frye and son-inlaw, Jay M. Frye, both of Stillwater Lake; and granddaugh­ter, Bridgett FryeHought­on (Alex), Columbia, S. C. She is also survived by her sister, Marie Rizzo of Waltham, Mass.; and several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents and husband, she was predecease­d by her siblings: Edward, Ruth, Bessie, Dave, Helen, Gervase, and Mary. She was also predecease­d by several nephews and nieces. In lieu of flowers, donations in Clara’s memory may be made to Halifax Hospice, who provided wonderful care during her last weeks and to the SPCA. Her family would like to thank Palliative Care for their assistance and her many relatives and friends who provided support with visits, calls and cards. A memorial mass will be held Friday, July 30th at 6 p.m. in St. Patrick’s, North East Margaree. Funeral arrangemen­ts are under the care and direction of Sunset Funeral Cooperativ­e, Margaree Valley.
