Man jailed one year for drug, weapons offences

SYDNEY — A Dominion man has been sentenced after pleading guilty to weapon and drug offences.

James Robert Osmond Berthiaume, 53, of Breigh Park was sentenced on three counts of breaching court orders and single counts of careless use of a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon, possession of a weapon knowing he was not authorized (a 303-rifle), uttering threat and possession of cocaine.

A host of other charges were dismissed.

He was sentenced to complete a one-year jail sentence followed by two years probation during which he is to refrain from alcohol and drugs not prescribed him and is to take counsellin­g for substance abuse and anger management.

He was also ordered to submit a DNA sample to the national registry and is banned from possessing weapons for 10 years. All items seized were ordered forfeited to the Crown.
