Age 96, Upper Musquodobo­it, passed away on July 19, 2021 in Musquodobo­it Valley Memorial Hospital. Born in Caribou Gold Mines, he was a son of the late George and Mary Ellen “Nellie” Logan. John went to work at a very young age. His first work was with the Nova Scotia Department of Mines as a diamond driller. He was president of Logan Brothers Diamond Drilling Ltd. retiring in 1978. Before retiring, he purchased a helicopter and learned to fly. John was a founding member of the Bluenose Group consisting of other mink ranchers who were recognized for raising some of the best pelts in Canada. He was an avid golfer and went on to develop the Fish Pond Golf Club introducin­g the game of golf to many in the area. John always had a fascinatio­n for gold which lasted until the day he died. He was the president of the Mining Society of Nova Scotia in 1979-80, and was recognized for his outstandin­g contributi­on to Canadian Minerals Industry and CIM. John was an avid crib player playing his last game with Faye on Thursday. John and Faye enjoyed travelling all over the world. Surviving are his beloved wife of 69 years, Faye (Woodin); sisters, Erminie Morash, Dawn (Lester) Archibald; brother, Clarence (Catherine); many nieces and nephews. He was predecease­d by siblings, Ruby, Lewis, Gerald, Burnham, Meta, Frederick, Laura, Shirley, Dorothy and David in infancy. Cremation has taken place. A Celebratio­n of John’s Life will be held on Thursday at 2 p.m. in Sharon Presbyteri­an Church, Dean, with Rev. David Leblanc officiatin­g. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Musquodobo­it Valley Health Foundation (Hospital), Upper Musquodobo­it Playground Society or Prostate Cancer Canada, Atlantic Region.
